Hunston Canoeing Event
Just wanted to let the Parish Council know how much we appreciated their support with our event on 26 September. We had a great turn out. About 100 went out on the water during the afternoon with about a further 50 spectating. Every one had alot of fun and the weather was fabulous.
The afternoon consisted of rafted canoe races, canoe polo games and canoe taster sessions. Many local people got involved with the races and taster sessions. Stephanie Thaurer (aged 12) said “It was a really good day competing against the other canoeist and you also had your team mates to help you!”The hunston youths and Hunston canoe club teams fiercely battled it out to try and win the rafted canoe race, but after all the splashing, shouting and screaming from the crowds watching, the Hunston youths finally won. David Barr who runs Hunston canoeing Project and the canoeing events said “It was great to see so many non-canoeists taking to the water in the glorious weather.” Many people enjoyed themselves, Molly Brook (Aged 12) said “I thought it was really fun and a very good idea, it not only was for our age but for adult’s as well as many younger children. The food was really well prepared and nice to eat” The event finished with a delicious casserole which everyone enjoyed sitting by the water’s edge as the sun set over the canal.
The canoe club based at hunston jetty is aimed at children aged 8 – 14 see www.chichestcanoeclub.org.uk for more details.
