17th July 2021

Spring has sprung and new shoots are appearing all around – and – there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel!   So it’s time to be planning for this year’s Gala.   Yes, the Gala is definitely going ahead (with the obvious proviso that Covid might force a change of plan) and the new Schedule for the Flower Show is available in the usual places plus some new venues so look out for it at The Farm Shop, Manor Nursery, Brick Kiln Garden Centre, Kirklands and The Walnut Tree and various local nurseries as well as the Church Porch.   It’s a great event if you’ve never been (is there anyone in the village who hasn’t!).   It’s been in existence for over 125 years.   It began in 1892 and last year was one of the very few times it hasn’t taken place.     Although we do raise money which is donated to local worthy causes the main purpose and function of the Gala has always been to give the people of Mundham District a fun day.   This year there will be most of our usual entertainments and attractions both in the hall and out on the field, including the popular Dog Show and a display of Vintage and Military vehicles.   There will be the usual Raffle, with superb prizes donated by local businesses, the tombola, football roulette, a crockery smash, stalls selling plants, produce, china and glass, toys, cakes and bric-a-brac; and you can have your face painted, sip a Pimms, enjoy a barbecue or a cream tea or an ice cream.   And while you’re enjoying all of these there will be plenty to look at – the dog show, many different types of vehicles – vintage cars, military vehicles and more.   And new for this year Kerry Lebbern from South Mundham will entertain us during the afternoon.   The centrepiece of the Gala is the Flower Show, which this year, due to the uncertainties of Covid, will be mounted in the Village Hall.    Now is the time to  consider which classes you are going to enter.   Will it be vegetables, fruit, plants, crafts, flowers, photographs or cookery.   Have you been learning new skills during those long months of lockdown or perhaps honing existing ones.    Lots of prizes to be won – and new this year will be prizes for Show Novices!   We have a good team but always keen to welcome new ‘hands’.   It’s good fun being involved so if you can spare some time either before the Gala in planning, and/or on the day, setting up in the morning, running or working on a stall etc,  please do contact any of the Committee members. – ring me and I’ll put you in touch with the relevant person Celia O’Shea  –  01243 788969, or email me on and follow us on   Facebook – Gala Twitter – Gala@mundhamgala And please don’t forget to ‘like us’.
