Mundham French Exchange
British ties with France go back several hundred years, but in 1983 a link was discovered between St Stephen’s Church in North Mundham and the Abbaye of La Lucerne d’Outremer in Normandy. Since then, every two years, an exchange has taken place between Mundham and La Lucerne. It’s a wonderful opportunity to spend a long weekend with a French family and visit local places of interest.
In May 2022, a group from Mundham visited La Lucerne, and in 2024 a group from La Lucerne will come here to stay with us, many renewing friendships which have grown over the years, as well as making new friends.
During the last two years we have held several very successful fundraising events (to entertain our French Exchange friends when they visit us)
Celia gave an illustrated talk on French Art of the 19th century; Kerry Jackson gave a very informative illustrated talk on the birds of Chichester Harbour.
On Saturday 3rd June 2023, the Small Village Hall was transformed into a French Bistro, and 30 people enjoyed a very special meal cooked entirely by Janet Cartwright. This event proved so successful and popular that another bistro event is planned for the Autumn (watch this space for the date)
In October 2023 Jill and Colin Frampton were our quizmasters for a great evening – a fun quiz and a delicious home-cooked boeuf bourguignon.
From 17th to 20th May, this year a group from La Lucerne d’Outremer (our twin village in Normandy) will be coming to stay with families in North Mundham and Runcton. They will live en famille with their host families and during that time some of our hosts will be guiding them on visits to Beaulieu and Bosham, and on the Saturday evening (18th) there will be a party in the Village Hall. Tickets will be available for those not hosting this time – – it’s always a fun evening so do come and join us – tickets will be available nearer the time, from any of the committee .
